Prospecting, surveying and documentation of the archaeological site off Levanzo at about 83 meters deep, which was the scene of one of the largest naval battles in ancient history. The victory of the Roman fleet over the Carthaginian one which decreed the end of the first Punic war.

Description:
Localization, mapping and documentation of five submarine cables followed for 24 km. Of the five cables, two are telegraphic and connect Syracuse to Tripoli and Benghazi; they were laid in 1912 by the Pirelli company during the Italian-Turkish war.

The aircraft was destroyed and pieces were scattered over a radius of about 90 meters. Still visible and intact are the 2 Jumo-211 engines, a wing and the tail fin. Identified as a Junker JU88 of the Luftwaffe.

The German seaplane is in flight trim and the tail section of the fuselage is missing. Clearly visible are the three Bramo-BMW 323R-2 engines, the canopy and the machine gun in the bow compartment. Identified as Dornier DO 24 W n°63 VH+SC, lost during a night ditching on 29-12-42. The accident caused 5 dead who rest in the German military cemetery of Motta Sant’Anastasia. The seaplane was found and identified on 29-12-21!

The airplane is presented in flight trim, in excellent condition. Identified as Martin Baltimore AG699 of the 69th RAF Squadron departed at 12:45 p.m. June 15, 1942, from Luqa airfield in Malta. AG699’s task was to observe naval traffic in the Pantelleria area; at that very time and in that stretch of sea, the “Battle of Mid-June” was being fought.
